St. Germain
Saint Germain is a mid sized town for the Northwoods. It has a grocery store, a fair amount of spots to dine out or grab a drink, an ice cream shop, a hardware store, etc. Basically, it has all the essentials. There are some nice lakes located not too far from town. One of the best features of St. Germain is its location. It is 15 minutes from Eagle River and 15-25 minutes from Minocqua (depending on where you are going in the Minocqua/Woodroof/Hazelhurt area). The central location opens up a lot of options when it comes to activities, dining, drinking, and just stuff to do in general.

| Heart of Vilas County (St. Germain) - This is a 12.6 mile section of the 40 mile long Heart of Vilas County Trail. The paved trail runs from St. Germain
east along Hwy 70 then north to the small town of Sayner. Bathroom facilities are located along the trail. Shannon Lake Trail - This trail has loop lengths of 2.3, 3.5, and 7 miles and the difficulty ranges from beginner to intermediate. These trails are also used for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. The loop goes around Shannon Lake features gently rolling terrain. St. Germain Fat Bike Loop - Groomed trails through mature woods with level and rolling terrain. The length varies from 1.8 to 6.1 miles and this is open for fat bikes only during the winter season. Awassa Nature Preserve and Hiking Trail - A 1 to 3.4 mile trail for biking, hiking and cross country skiing. This trail is considered to be easy/beginner level. Some parts of the trail are used as snowmobile trail during the winter. |

destination of the northwoods. It is most famous for it's 28 lake chain of lakes which is the biggest freshwater chain in the world. The town has all the modern conveniences but
retains a small town mom and pop feel. Minocqua - Driving 15 minutes west on Hwy 70 will take you into Minocqua. The "island city" is probably the most "modern" of the towns in Northern Wisconsin. There are still plenty of the older mom and pop type of businesses, but they are sprinkled in with fast food restaurants and other national box store outlets. There is a wide variety of things to do and places to visit around Minocqua and the chain of lakes that surround the town is one of the most popular ones around. Being popular, it is also the busiest chain around. The town is considered a tourist hot spot and many summer weekends you will feel like you're back in the city with all the people...well, you will if you're coming from the Lac Du Flambeau area at least! |
